Who they are: Suka is Vyasa’s son and one of the book’s clearest examples of someone born with a powerful pull toward liberation. Vyasa wants a son; Suka wants freedom. Their tension gives Book 1 its human side: the sage who knows cosmic truth still struggles as a father.

- Is born through the fire-sticks after Vyasa’s long desire for a son.
- Studies with Janaka to understand whether liberation and household life can coexist.
- Becomes the son whose absence later throws Vyasa into grief.
