Who they are: Lakshmi is usually recognized as Vishnu’s consort, but Book 9 gives her a wider Shakta role. She is one of the five great Prakriti forms, then appears through stories of prosperity lost, recovered, cursed, and transformed into rivers and sacred plants.
What they do that matters:
- Appears in the fivefold Prakriti teaching.
- Descends through the Goloka curse-cycle as Padmavati and Tulsi.
- Leaves heaven after Durvasa’s curse and returns through the churning of the ocean.
