Who they are: Chyavana is the sage Sukanya accidentally injures. His story begins harshly but turns into a test of loyalty and a challenge to Indra. When the Ashvins heal him, Chyavana helps them claim a share in sacrifice, even against Indra’s resistance.

What they do that matters:

• Is injured while absorbed in deep meditation.
• Marries Sukanya and is restored to youth by the Ashvins.
• Challenges Indra by giving the Ashvins a ritual share.
